Trevor’s exhibition at Turner Galleries will include paintings and three-dimensional works, exploring colour, geometry and pattern within the context of architecture. The works shown will consolidate on his previous exhibition with us in 2009, and his recent Sydney and Paris exhibitions. Trevor will also be creating an extraordinary entry statement to the gallery, with the installation of vinyl flooring in geometric patterns that will produce startling optical illusions.
Trevor is widely recognised for his formally structured, minimalist approach to painting that is informed by his sustained engagement with a limited range of colours and an admiration for the commonplace. In recent years Trevor’s works have mostly revolved around a limited palette of yellow, pale blue, bright orange and dark (almost black) blue. The works, although always appearing abstract, are often linked to architectural motifs.
Trevor's paintings can be found in major public collections around Australia.

Viewers of The Armature will discover an exhibition of watercolours and a large installation. Several watercolours depict circular objects. Hunt is not sure what they are. “Possibly meteors, spirits, masks or boulders…” Paranormal faces, masks, a hockey player, a giant clam, Malevich on his death bed and a candle homage to Gerhard Richter hang alongside an installation of reproductions of headline posters in wire framed cages for The West Australian and The Australian newspapers. In the centre of the gallery is a large construction. It’s a type of shelter, life size, complete with bench and fluorescent light. Hunt saw the original whilst in Basel, sitting despondently alongside an unused skating rink. The theory was that in winter the man-made rink would be filled with water and left to freeze for the local skaters. But it never got cold enough. On the bench in the shelter are two artist books by Hunt, filled with watercolour studies; circular in form and carefully centred on each page. Hunt is not sure what they are…

In music, the refrain is a repeated line or a series of notes, present most conspicuously in folk songs and national anthems, in songs meant to remind us of home. It provides a sense of stability and constancy; at each point of return it is subtly changed but remain at its core, the same. In visual terms, the equivalent of the refrain might be the motif or pattern - the sense of structure and familiarity that provides a point of both departure and return.

The Refrain presents the work of three artists who utilise these structures. They each seek something uniquely local and personal in their use of the serial, meditating on and questioning what feels like home.

Tony Stewart was just 21 when he was killed in Balibo in October 1975. 32 years after Tony and his television news crew were murdered, the ghosts of the past are awakened again during the coronial inquest.

For Tony’s mother June, these ghosts are as real and as tangible as her daughter Jane, standing in the kitchen with her. Jane wants to lay the ghosts to rest but June can’t let go. Her anger and pain over what happened to her boy have not abated, no matter what the inquest findings are.

Sitting in the kitchen one evening, Jane forces June to open up the old wounds and talk about her feelings. But can truth, time and love heal decades of pain?

This Wall Talks by Kyle Hughes-Odgers is a new mural and light box site behind Rechibites Theatre in Northbridge. It was developed by Foodchain in partnership with the William Street Collective with support from the WA Police - Strategic Crime Prevention Division.

Kyle’s artwork depicts slumbering figures immersed within a fragmented dream state, rendered in his inimitable patternistic style and colour palette. Segments of the mural have been translated into 3D animated lenticular prints and installed in light boxes at key points along the wall. A short film created during the installation process is viewable online and at the Northbridge Piazza Screen.
