The first ever 'Sunday Best' by Unwrapped looks set to attract stylish crowds in pursuit of the latest and most unique offerings from Western Australia's design stars of the future.

Now in it's third year as Perth's most successful designer market, Unwrapped is delighted to embark on a brand new collaboration with Perth Fashion Festival. Sunday Best by Unwrapped is a Sunday marketplace which will showcase uber-cool products including unique fashion, jewellery, homewares, accessories, skincare, illustration and original art from some of WA's best emerging design talent.

Stall holder applications will be accepted from Friday 10 July to Friday 31 July and are open to all WA designers that design and manufacture their products within Australia.

Perth Fashion Festival Director Mariella Harvey Hanrahan said the event gives up and coming WA designers a great opportunity to kick-start their career.

Christopher Young is interested in who or what is not there, what he can't quite see and the helplessness of not being able to ground an image in a time line.

Big Name No Blankets

Holly Story, Olga Cironis, Thomas Hoareau, Louise Snooks and David Turley are joined by Kay Lawrence (SA) and Fiona Foley (QLD). Artists who work with blankets and cases exhibit together in an exploration of the colonial and the domestic. Holly Story, Olga Cironis, Thomas Hoareau, Louise Snooks and David Turley (all WA) are joined by Kay Lawrence (SA) and Fiona Foley (QLD).

The title refers to the 1984 debut album by Indigenous musicians, the Warumpi Band. It was the first album produced by an Aboriginal band that charted in mainstream white Australian culture. The term seems to question the status of someone who is supposedly well known and respected but has a lack of material goods, measured here in blankets. It is open to interpretation.

Blankets and suitcases are familiar and practical staples of human existence, which can be seen as basic survival items that have remained pretty well unchanged over many years. They certainly have a domestic application yet due to various associations, they can be seen as politically charged.

Migration and refuge, homelessness, prison, colonisation, baggage, trade and loss can be seen in opposition to shelter, comfort and a sense of belonging or home.

Blankets as currency were an important part of economic exchange between indigenous peoples and white settlers all over the world. Stories of blankets infected with smallpox and given as gifts to Native Americans as part of a deliberate campaign to gain control of their land have never been proved or disproved. Blankets are still important commodities in remote indigenous communities, especially at funeral time. They are harder to obtain and easily destroyed in the harsh conditions of community life.

Our lovely friend at One Trick Pony is hosting an artistic spectacular called Pick n Mix opening at Lala Orange on Wednesday 1st July from 6pm. The idea behind the exhibition is that 10 artists showcase a print each and then you can either choose 3 for $30 or 6 for $50! You see? It's a Pick n Mix but instead of lollies its pretty and very delicious art. The artists exhibiting on the night will be Jodee Knowles, Deathbot, Kate-Anna Williams, Jeff Hansen, Henry Luong, Yolanda Stapleton, Martin Wills, Gav Fielding, Fudge and Sarah Brown. Our short course is an introduction to the fun and glamorous world of burlesque! The course is all about having fun whilst discovering, exploring and drawing out your sexy, sensual inner burlesque queen, in a playful, safe and friendly environment!

Consisting of six 1-hour sessions over six weeks, you'll be introduced to the history of burlesque, You'll learn how to be a glamour queen, including what to wear, how to walk (even in sky-high heels!) and how to exude confidence and sex appeal! You'll explore the art of the tease-artiste - how to play with a strap, peel a glove or strip a stocking to tantalise an audience... or just that special someone! And of course, we'll cover all the fundamentals of burlesque dance! You'll shimmy, shake, undulate, bump, grind, wiggle, jiggle, twirl and swirl your way through the classic burlesque moves and some fun group choreography. It's dead easy and a fun low-impact workout too!
