Melding art, performance and music (and absurd references to quokkas, Madonna, and Hungry Jacks), Waiting for Rotto heralds the return of eclectic duo Simon Gevers and Luke Murphy (sub:URB), in a collaboration based on Beckett’s Waiting for Godot.

A Body of Knowledge will be shown in the Showcase Space at Central TAFE Art Gallery at the corner of Aberdeen St and Beaufort St, Northbridge. Official opening at 6pm on Tuesday the 22nd of September, and public viewings Wednesday the 23rd to Friday the 25th 11-2pm and 3-6pm and Saturday the 26th 10-2pm. From September 3rd, eight Perth artists will transform the old bank at 214 William Street, Northbridge into a short-term makeshift studio, culminating in a closing party on September 18th that will showcase the work created during this time.

The Bank will be open for the duration of the project, allowing for the exhibition to be viewed at all stages of it's development.

Curated by Jamie Macchiusi and Gemma Weston and featuring the work of Tim Carter, Jessee Lee Johns, BennettMiller, Jessie Mitchell, Joel Mitchell, Mark Parfitt, Matthew Shane and Andrew Varano, THE END is ultimately about what comes afterwards, using the mess and chaos of the live artist's studio to explore the failure of the finite and the possibilies born of endings.

A rare glimpse into the artistic process, this exhibition offers an insight into the decisions artists make when developing their work, and their hopes and fears about how it will be received by their audience.

Presenting work by eminent senior artists such as Aleks Danko and Rose Nolan alongside work by recent graduates such as Tom Polo and Kirsty Hulm, the exhibition highlights that the aspirations and anxieties that accompany the making of an artwork remain constant throughout an artist's career. The approach taken to the subject ranges widely, from Andrew McQualter's poetic and earnest wall drawings about the role of the artist in society, to the bitingly funny videos by Rachel Scott about the pitfalls of working from her parents' garage.

Ultimately, what these frank and deeply personal works reveal is that the desire of the artist to communicate and connect with the viewer is the driving force in why they do the things they do.

Sydney based artist Izabela Pluta's practice explores the psychological connection (or disconnection) between places. Featuring a new series of large format photographs and a wallpaper mural this exhibition highlights work specially developed for PICA focusing on Western Australia's resource industries.

Examining the semi-permanent, fly-in-fly out lifestyles of regions such as the Pilbara, Gestures of the Landscape delves into the impermanence and transience of WA's mining towns.

Janet Biggs' video, Anana Dream examines the role of free will in the lives of polar bears in captivity. Anana Dream is the dream of things that can never be and the loss of things unknown. Now on the endangered list due to their shrinking sea ice habitat, polar bears face the prospect of survival in captivity or extinction.

Biggs' video takes its name from the Inuit word for pretty, which is also the name of one of the bears she filmed. Anana and her brother Lee swim in perfect synchronisation. On initial viewing, their movement, grace, and power is awe inspiring.

The music, a love song from the 1982 film Blade Runner, presents a romantic relationship between the two bears, and by extension examines an overly romanticised relationship between humans and animals of prey.

Upon continued looking, the polar bears synchronised swimming reveals itself as the mind-numbing, repetitive behavior of animals in captivity.
