Two photographic images by Emma Van Dordrecht are on show from Saturday 24th of October at Brave New World. The images were taken during a break from her regular commissioned work during an around the world holiday.

Determined to travel light, without the distraction of choice of lenses, choice of film or even choice of exposure, Emma opted for light point and shoot type cameras to get back to the art of seeing. The resultant images were shot on a plastic Holga camera; this type of camera allowed Emma to step back from the highly technical demands of commercial photography and embrace the low-fi attributes a Holga presents.

Setting out each day on a 6 week journey, she rediscovered the joy of capturing things the eye and heart responded to quickly, without thought. Not being one for exacting perfection or great at verbalising her images, Emma finds she can't be rational about what she sees and likes to snap… her hope is that some else will see them in same way and also enjoy her irreverent view.

Emma reiterates that the wing shot was amusing. “ I was aware I was really just shooting someone else's brilliance (as so much of photography can be) but liked it enough to want to remember and take it home with me.”

Territory Twelve: Volume 2 is the second exhibition of emerging twenty-seven year old artist Martin E Wills. Territory Twelve: Volume 2 is another trip into the same world of last years Territory Twelve, an apocalyptic mash-up of science fiction disaster and comic book kitsch. Territory Twelve: Volume 2 opens October 24 and runs until November 2 at Kurb Gallery, William St, Northbridge.

After the unexpected success of his first solo show, Martin spent 2009 participating in group shows with other emerging and established artists like Jodee Knowles, Sean Morris and Creepy, and participating in prominent projects like the Condor Tower Carpark project - the southern hemisphere's largest single collection of street art and graffiti in a single location! Most recently he took part in the touring Clothespeg project, which toured Sydney and performed live art at the Perth edition of the show.

As the end of year approached, Martin couldn't contain his love for machines of unrelenting alien death, so exploring the world of Territory Twelve a second time became inevitable. The result is an explosion of colourful city-crushing machines battling jelly-headed warriors and putrid pink blobs absorbing entire neighbourhoods, while pompadoured scientists watch the terror unfold.

Territory Twelve is just another of a string of exhibitions from emerging Perth artists who are beginning to give the likes of Melbourne a run for their money - but it almost didn't happen. Kurb Gallery was granted a reprieve from EPRA, who are currently looking to renovate and upgrade properties along William St. Territory Twelve: Volume 2 will be one of the last exhibitions at Kurb Gallery before the space is closed for renovations. A Photographic Exhibition from New York and Abroad

This exhibition is a culmination of Jack's love of city travels and getting into places where he is probably not meant to be.

In New York he was pulled up by undercover cops as his camera guided him down the ever so intriguing train tracks, which lead him to be in neighborhoods the policemen really didn't think he should be. Stockholm, Amsterdam and Rotterdam all see Jack's camera again lurking in tunnels, ditches and on tracksides.

What's come from it all is an fascinating collection of gritty city images, capturing the delicate balance between the man made and nature as it reclaims its crumbling surrounds. No doubt it will make us all dream of visiting greener (or perhaps grottier) pastures.

Join us for opening drinks at The Butcher Shop 6pm Wednesday 21 October. This is an 18+ Event.

The exhibition runs daily until 27 October.

Ten life size figures that explore our humanity with regard to individual internal and external realities. The works reference popular culture, art history, religious and political imagery and propaganda to take the form of monuments of unknown protagonists. The figures provoke and encourage questions about the dilemmas of contemporary life by exploring traditional and contemporary interpretations of figurative sculpture and monuments.
The work was commissioned by a syndicate of 10 patrons allowing the artist, TAFE Graduate Simon Gilby, to spend one full year uninterrupted on the project. Each syndicate member effectively commissioned one of the ten works, without any creative control or input.
