Propel is very excited to announce to return of ArtsCAMP after a huge success last year.

ArtsCAMP is an exciting week - long creative experience for young people aged 15 – 17 years to explore and contribute to Perth’s art community.

Held in the first week of the July school holidays, ArtsCAMP provides an excellent platform for young people to learn about the cultural opportunities Perth has to offer, engage, participate and learn about the creative industries as well as express their own ideas. The innovative camp will be packed with creative hands-on workshops with practising artists, tours of arts spaces in and around Perth, events including gigs, theatre, exhibitions and art industry talks.

Applications for ArtsCAMP are now open online at http://www.propel.org.au and close 5pm Friday 14 May 2010. All young Western Australians aged 15 – 17 years are encouraged to apply. For those regional and remote participants Propel is offering 10 full financial bursaries to pay for travel to and from ArtsCAMP. Propel is also offering 5 full financial bursaries to metro participants. Propel acknowledges young people with disabilities may require extra support to engage in ArtsCAMP and is happy to accommodate learning, physical and intellectual needs. Six local, emerging artists interpret the theme 'Mythology' for this exhibition, opening 2pm on Saturday 17th April in KURB Gallery's new space at 214 William St (opposite Brass Monkey).

The artists participating cross multiple disciplines including oil painting, digital painting, drawing and photography.

The exhibition showcases new works from Richard Healy, Simon Boxer, David Charles Collins, Tanya De Souza-Meally, Jeffrey Phillips, and Jenna Downing.

Artworks are available for sale.

Light refreshments will be provided at the opening.

Hatched is Australia's most significant survey of emerging artists.

Heading into its 19th year, this landmark exhibition continues to provide an unparalleled opportunity for talented art school graduates to present their work in a professional gallery context alongside that of their national peers. It offers an all-important stepping-stone from the realm of education to the beginnings of a professional career as an artist.

This year 39 artists from 20 art schools across the country were selected to grace the vast galleries of PICA. Bear witness to these contemporary pioneers as they head into new artistic territory with their extreme mix of expanded drawing and painting practices, soft architecture and aural environments - amongst other eye, mind and ear-bending aesthetic experiments!

Hatched expands further in 2010 with the launch of the Doctor Harold Schenberg Art Prize, an annual award of $20,000 that will be presented to one Hatched artist each year. The Prize has been set up to allow an outstanding art school graduate to invest in the development of their practice through travel, research or production support.

Olga’s work addresses identity and memory and how we link it to notions of place, tradition, culture and customs. She has a personal history as a migrant and this informs her investigations of how people (and in this case women) are defined and labelled by local language and its hidden and double meanings.

Theo has wrapped domestic objects in brown paper, giving them new life and identities. A boxing glove is transformed into a ‘paper punch’, a pepper grinder into a ‘paper mill’, and a toy wooden plane becomes a ‘paper plane’. The simplicity of the brown paper strips the objects of individuality, almost like home-brand objects, yet their distinctive shapes still place them from specific periods of time. Theo has grouped the pieces so that they form a narrative; relationships give rise to new interpretations.

The Going Away and the Coming Back : Karen Djordjevic

This exhibition features a collection of black and white scapes from Karen Djordjevic's journeys around the globe. Using a 35mm SLR camera and shooting with black and white film, these resonant images are in the tradition of Magnum Photography. Karen's style of photography is about taking the time to look and then re-look, as she finds quite often you see things differently, whilst also allowing for amazing moments to naturally unfold before her eyes.

YCulture Metro is a funding program that provides arts grants of up to $3,000 for young people aged between 12-26. YCulture Metro targets young metropolitan artists who are at an entry level in their arts practice and have had limited experience in grant application writing as well as initiating and coordinating projects.

YCulture can provide funds for projects (such as all-ages gigs) and skills development initiatives (such as workshops and creative developments).

Applications are open all year with a guaranteed 10 day turn around.
