Flume [Sydney]

FLUME is a Sydney beat maker who's only 20 (!) years of age. He started making beats when he was 13, using a production program he found in a cereal box.

Flume's debut EP Sleepless came out on Sydney label Future-Classic and has enough lush pads, chopped and chip-munked vocals, fat saw waves and spine tingling percussion to impress any fan of Hudson Mohawke, Seekae, FlyLo or Space Dimension Controller.

When too much Christmas turkey is not enough the GOLDEN TURKEY FILM FEST may be just the ticket! Join us for a night of cult cinema under the stars in the Perth Cultural Centre.

The Golden Turkey Film Festival serves up a feast of B Grade classics so endearingly terrible that they personify the so-bad-it's-good genre of filmmaking. Four B Grade classics with dialogue and acting so terrible, stories so ridiculous, sets that fall apart and effects so dazzlingly cheesy that you cannot afford to miss out.

These cult gems which have played in relative obscurity on television screens for years have now fallen into the genre of cult classics, fueled by fans of cinema atrocities and critics such as Michael Medved who coined the Golden Turkey Awards in his book of the same name. These Z grade classics are screening in big screen awesomeness on the massive LED screen in the Perth Cultural Centre.

New Years Day sees the screening of The 'Citizen Kane' of bad movies and ultimate cult flick, Ed Wood - PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, Starring Vampira and Bela Lugosi, famed for his screen performance of Count Dracula, and who was deceased at the time of filming, but obstacles such as these are no match for the infamous Mr Wood, with Mr Lugosi still having scenes and starring role billing.

If you have a penchant for bad costumed alien invading lobsters, shaky and flaky sets coupled with acting and direction so mind-numbingly brilliant in its awfulness then this is the cinematic Holiday Seasons treat for you. If not cover your eyes and run.

Film screens at 8pm and is supported with a classic cartoon short.

In an exciting new presentation, it is the first time Your Collection has been displayed chronologically; it traces art made in the early nineteenth century, locally and around the world, to the art of today. Your Collection 1800 – today brings together an extraordinary group of over 450 Western Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous, national and international art, craft and design from the State Art Collection. There are four principal areas of display which you can discover on the ground floors of both the Centenary Galleries and the main Gallery building.

1800-1920 Here and There located in the Centenary Galleries includes works by Hans Heysen, Frederick McCubbin and Auguste Rodin; 1920-1960 Many Modernisms includes works by Stanley Spencer, Sidney Nolan and Kathleen O’Connor; 1960-1980 Anything Goes features work by Jenny Watson, Barbara Hepworth, Kaapa Tjampitjinpa and Alec Mingelmanganu; 1980-today Expanding Fields brings us up to date with major works by Rover Thomas, Ken Unsworth, Sally Gabori and Max Pam.

Alternating Currents is a major exhibition developed by PICA and the Japan Foundation and sponsored by Allens Arthur Robinson, that presents significant new work by six contemporary Japanese artists, artist collectives and musicians. Spanning a number of generations, the artists in this exhibition have multi and interdisciplinary approaches to their art making that encompass performance, film, installation, sound art and music. Their works interrogate notions of live art practice, involving local artists and communities on different levels and in a number of instances in ways that reflect on the local and global effects of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan earlier this year.

The works in this exhibition will surprise, delight and provoke visitors to PICA and in some cases encourage them to become active participants. Audiences will be prompted to buy and consume a 'local delicacy', experience a giant game, activate musical boxes and contribute to an international 'conference' on the Reconstruction of Japan.
