ohn Dwyer [has] built Thee Oh Sees into a Teflon coated vessel that spews out countless records at a furious clip and plays live with such intensity that it feels like the band members have noticed the Doomsday Clock is about to strike midnight.
- Drowned in Sound
Californian lo-fi garage-dwellers Thee Oh Sees return to Perth on January 20 for a riot-starting show at The Bakery. Imagine the reverberating psych aesthetic of the 13th Floor Elevators mixed with the foot-to-the-floor energy of The Stooges, and youâll have some idea why this show will both drop jaws and blow minds.
The ĂĽber-prolific bandâs second record for the year, Carrion Crawler/The Dream, is a rollicking, sweaty beast of an album that is sure to grace many a top 10 list by the end of 2011. Continuing in the tradition of Thee Oh Seesâ rough-around-the-edges rock and roll, the record captures the manic, hyperactive antics of the band, fronted by the guitar-chewing, melody-maiming John Dwyer (Coachwhips, Pink and Brown, Hospital).
In a live setting, the band are gritty, loud and a guaranteed party-starter. Anyone who witnessed the bandâs last Perth show can testify to the raw energy and stage-destroying power of Thee Oh Sees in full flight.
Support from the amazing triumvirate of the swaggering dirtiness that is The Growl, the punk-garage rock of The Painkillers and noisy duo Frozen Ocean, as well as DJs Shannon Fox and Jamie Macdonald.
