The Conservatorium features 80 emerging and established artists, who were given the brief that their work must be contained within a glass, plastic or ceramic jar. The resultant artworks resonate as an industrious investigation into containment, seeing and preserving.

Curated by Renae Coles & Anna Dunnill, The Conservatorium is the first exhibition to take place at Perth's newest artist-run initiative (ARI), Paper Mountain.

Miles Noel is the feature artist from January - March at Bivouac.
In this, his latest offering, Miles depicts portraits immersed within a fluidly painted semi-abstract landscape. Loosely sweeping brush strokes evocative of flowers and feathers are melded together with lush
semi-photographic realism, creating an arresting combination of styles. Miles employs his skills as a commercial photographer and graphic designer when constructing his paintings.

2012 marks a decade of the Tom Malone Prize. This acquisitive award for Australian glass artists has been the platform for the Gallery to collect some of the best work being made in the country today. The combined exhibitions feature work by 2012’s shortlisted makers, all past winners and a selection of glass works from the State Art Collection. Works have been selected to bring to view objects which have been recently purchased, and those works that precede and parallel the works of the Tom Malone Prize acquisitions. The display broadens viewers’ understanding about what is happening in the glass world and what is possible in the medium of glass.
