Marion Borgelt is one of Australia’s most eminent artists, well known for her paintings, sculptures and public artworks. Time, space, light and motion are all themes that Marion’s work has examined for several years, and she continues this exploration in her current exhibition; Musical Geometry. She is fascinated by how light behaves in certain environments: how it bends, folds and curls providing sensory encounters. Her artworks often reference notions of sequential movement that calibrates time and change in a universe of perpetual motion. Marion has been exhibiting professionally for over 35 years and has received many significant awards. Her work can be found in more than 40 major public collections and in a further 22 corporate collections.

This February at the Bakery we are lucky to have Kimtortion and Jaan modelling for us!

Kimtortion, an extremely flexible young starlet ran away to the circus and met Jaan, a German backpacker with an uncanny ability to juggle anything and everything! The two performers fell in love almost instantly and wowed audiences with talents the likes of which people had never seen before! Their fantastic career seemed to be cut short when one day Kimtortion fell from a great height whilst rigging for aerial performances. Sadly Kim had lost the use of her legs but Jaan picked her up and carried her like a princess from show to show! They now perform the legendary Ragdoll act where Kimtortion's exquisite flexibility and upper body strength shines through. A Truly amazing performance team!


Our slightly over hyperactive and insane German Scientist Dr Barry Umenema will be back to host us through the evening. He'll drag you giggling and screaming through his bizarre games and throw lollies at you whenever he damn feels like it.

Easels are welcome up the back and remember to bring drop sheets if you are doing some flamboyant ink or paintwork. As always the bar is fully stocked to help loosen that creative mind of yours!

We're going all things musically glamorous and shiny for Pop Quiz 4, which means everything from Bowie to Lou Reed to Slade to Liza Minelli to Poison to Kiss to Marilyn Manson right through to pretty much all the records you found in your Dad's record collection that he would pretend to be embarrassed by until you noticed how worn the grooves were. 2012 marks a decade of the Tom Malone Prize. This acquisitive award for Australian glass artists has been the platform for the Gallery to collect some of the best work being made in the country today. The combined exhibitions feature work by 2012’s shortlisted makers, all past winners and a selection of glass works from the State Art Collection. Works have been selected to bring to view objects which have been recently purchased, and those works that precede and parallel the works of the Tom Malone Prize acquisitions. The display broadens viewers’ understanding about what is happening in the glass world and what is possible in the medium of glass.
