Outskirts 2011

Posted June 8 2011

Calling for Submissions

On Sunday 25 September the creative hub of Northbridge will come alive for Outskirts, a precinct wide festival celebrating emerging fashion and design. Pop-up stores, artist studios, performance, street stalls, designer sales, workshops and more will take to the streets, as part of Outskirts, which is an event within the Perth Fashion Festival.

Outskirts is a pedestal for upcoming and existing local WA talent - the inaugural 2009 event comprised of over 50 things to do, see and collect, supported over 290 individual creatives and was a huge success for all involved. This year we hope to make it even better by filling every nook in Northbridge with something exciting, and we're hoping that you can be part of making this happen.

You're Invited
We're looking for creative people, businesses and organisations to get involved in this year's Outskirts program.

The scope is huge, and it is really up to what you would like to do to be included. To get you thinking, here are few ideas:
- a pop up store
- take your studio to the street for a day
- a static display of your latest collection
- an exhibition
- a street market stall
- a group activity involving the public (workshop, public art installation, etc)
- a fashion parade

Your concept can be purely promotional - building an image for your brand, or commercial - aiming to make sales on the day.

Your event will feature in a program that is promoted online and in print, and is heavily marketed throughout the Fashion Festival and OnWilliam. On the 25th September, a travel themed, passport style program will guide visitors around the precinct where they will discover existing shops, galleries, venues and on the way stumble upon a series of temporary stalls, installations and... well the rest is up to you! Signage at each location will identify you as part of the broader program.

What you need to do
We are currently working to secure a number of vacant shops and public spaces where these things can occur, so at this stage we need your concepts so we can begin pairing you with locations and organising temporary leases, marquees etc you may need. Upon successful pairing of a location a participation fee will need to be paid to secure your spot. The fee can range from $100 to $300+gst dependant on the size of the location and the scale of the event/pop-up shop.

Important Dates
1 July : Your concept due
4 - 13 July : You will be contacted with possible locations and to discuss options
18 July : Participation confirmed, contracts signed, fees due, marketing description finalised
21-24 September : Access to indoor venues begins for bump in (to be finalised during pairing)
25 September : OUTSKIRTS trading from 10am - 5pm
27 September : Access to indoor venues ends (to be finalised during pairing)

Your concept must be received no later than 6pm 1 July 2011 - Please provide your concept in the format below.

If you have any queries please contact Kristine on 9467 6373 (Wednesdays only) or by email hello@OnWilliam.com.au
