Improv & Theatre Workshops

03 Feb 2015

The Blue Room Theatre will be hosting a series of four workshops with visiting artists from the Perth International Arts Festival and FRINGE WORLD as part of Summer Nights.

Sign up to learn from visiting international artists Tara Notcutt & Rebecca Makin-Taylor (South Africa) and Racing Minds (UK).

Presented with the support of the Perth International Arts Festival and FRINGE WORLD.
So far we have confirmed the following three workshops, with the fourth to be announced soon:

HOW (NOT) TO IMPROVISE - BEGINNERS (from the creators of And Now For Something Completely Wireless)
Friday 13 February // 12pm - 5pm // PICA // $50 Blue Room Theatre or FTI members, $65 non-members (includes one ticket to the show in the first week: 9pm, Feb 10-14)
The stone cold basics. With these under your belt, you're well on your way to being brilliant (although you don't want to look brilliant - you want to make other people look brilliant). An introduction suitable for beginners, performers from other fields looking to try improv, or anyone who's a bit rusty.

HOW (NOT) TO IMPROVISE - INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED (from the creators of And Now For Something Completely Wireless)
Saturday 21 February // 12pm - 5pm // PICA // $50 Blue Room Theatre or FTI members, $65 non-members (includes one ticket to the show in the first week: 9pm, Feb 10-14)
Where we spill our secrets. How do you take suggestions, let the audience sit back and forget, and bring them all back together later in a beautiful tied-up way? Memorable characters, satisfying narrative, 'surely they scripted that' moments - long-form improv is where the magic happens, and we'll teach you how to do it.

FREEING YOUR VOICE / FROM PAGE TO STAGE - A two-part vocal and physical theatre intensive from South Africa (from the creators of Last Rounds)
Tuesday 17 Feb // 10am - 5pm How much? $45 Blue Room Theatre or FTI members, $60 non-members (includes one ticket to the show in the first week: 6.30pm, Feb 10-14)
The day will be split into two sessions. The first will be spent with Rebecca, who is leading a 3 hour session called Freeing Your Voice: Introduction to vocal technique. There will then be a one hour lunch break, which will be followed by Tara leading a 3 hour session called From Page to Stage: An introduction to adaptation.
